Prof. Dr. Kanwal Ameen is a dynamic, innovative, committed person who is known nationally and internationally in the area of Library and Information Science. She has got a number of international and national awards/scholarships. She has produced more than 70 publications for international refereed journals, conference proceedings, and as book & book chapters along with 2 PhDs and 6 MPhils since 2005. She was the Chief-Editor of Pakistan Journal of Library and Information Science from 2005-2009.
As chair, Dr. Kanwal works hard to enhance the quality of the LIS program in all possible ways.As a result, the LIS Dept. enjoys a distinguished position throughout Pakistan. It has got the membership of the CiSAP (Consortium of Schools of Asia Pacific) in 2011 and high scores in annual assessment by the PU Quality Enhancement Cell. Furthermore, to facilitate PU social scientists in their research and knowledge handling skills,a continuous professional and research development (CPRD) cell has been established to facilitate.In this regard she has organized and conducted a number of training workshops.Continuing professional training workshops are also organized to update working professionals’ learning. The promotion of curricular, co-curricular and research activities amongst the faculty members and students is her focus.
Dr Kanwal served on organizing committees of various international conferences and has chaired their sessions. She was the chair, Continuing Education Committee, Pakistan Library Association (Punjab). She is secretary, International Federation of Library Association (IFLA)’s Special Interest Group on LIS Education in Developing Countries; Patron, Punjab University Library and Information Science Alumni Association (PULISAA); Member, Higher Education Commissions’ Sub Committee on LIS Curriculum, and various other academic and administrative committees of the Universities. Also, she is a member of American Library Association; Special Library Association, USA American Society of Information Science & Technology (ASIS&T); Charted Institute of Library and Information Professional (CILIP, UK)
